From Leaf to Cup
Tea has been cherished for centuries for its comforting ritual, cultural significance and rich flavors. At Tea The World, we love sharing the story behind every cup. Here's how tea travels from leaf to cup.
Grown Around the World
True tea comes from the Camellia sinensis plant, grown in regions from the misty mountains of Darjeeling, India, to the hillsides of Japan, China, Sri Lanka and Africa. Climate, altitude and soil all shape a tea's character.
Plucked with Care
The finest teas are often made from the youngest leaves and buds. Skilled pluckers harvest them at just the right moment for the style of tea being made.
Processed into Different Styles
After harvest, leaves go through some combination of withering, rolling, oxidizing and drying. How these steps are done determines the type of tea:
- White tea is simply withered and dried, like our White Blueberry.
- Green tea is heated early to prevent oxidation, keeping it fresh and vegetal, like India Simply Green.
- Oolong is partly oxidized for layered flavor, like Peach Oolong.
- Black tea is fully oxidized for a bold, rich cup, like Irish Breakfast.
Herbal teas such as chamomile are made from other plants—flowers, leaves, roots and fruits—and are naturally caffeine-free.
Blended and Brewed
Many teas are then blended with fruits, flowers or spices to create favorites like Masala Chai and Earl Grey Bravo. Finally, the journey ends in your teapot, where water and time unlock every flavor.
More Than a Beverage
Tea is a reflection of culture, tradition and community. The next time you brew a cup, take a moment to savor the flavors and the history behind them—and travel the world without leaving your teapot. Explore our tea collection. Welcome to Tea The World, where every sip tells a story.
