What Is Tea and Its Magic?

Welcome to the Tea The World blog!
Here you'll find stories about our teas, brewing guides and a closer look at the world of tea. Let's start at the beginning.
What Is Tea?
Tea is much more than a drink; it's a journey that connects us to the earth, our history and each other. Enjoyed across cultures and continents, tea is widely cited as the most consumed beverage in the world after water. What many people don't realize is that black, green, oolong, white and pu'erh teas all come from a single plant: Camellia sinensis.
This plant, a relative of the ornamental camellias admired in gardens, is a subtropical evergreen native to Asia. It thrives in loose, deep soil, at higher altitudes and in subtropical climates, and today it's grown around the world.
The Magic of Variety
The magic of tea lies in its diversity. Differences in processing, geography and climate create everything from the robust flavor of black tea like Irish Breakfast to the delicate notes of white tea like White Blueberry and the layered aromas of oolong like Peach Oolong. Each reflects the place it comes from.
What About Herbal Tea?
Other infusions often called "tea" are more accurately known as herbal teas or tisanes. These include favorites like chamomile, rooibos and fruit blends, each with its own distinct flavor and naturally caffeine-free.
